There are many things missing from my resume. Many things between the lines. And although they're not there because that's not what recruiters or HM are interested about, I know you guys are. And I think it's important to demystify Data Analytics careers, so I'll share my full journey with you. Here are all of the most important moments that led me to my first Analytics position:1) I had the privilege of attending a really good middle/high school that gave me a good educational background.2) Spent a year abroad in Michigan, USA. Skills/Learnings: Fluent English, chose Economics as my Bachelor's Degree living there.3) Graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Economics. Skills/Learnings: Logical thinking, problem solving, networking, statistics, and resilience.4) Had a 2yrs internship in Marketing. Skills/Learnings: Learned how to work with multiple cross-functional teams and subjects. Also felt that we weren't using enough data for decision-making and that bothered me.5) Felt very uneasy when I was about to graduate from college and realized that I needed to try a different path and use some of the skills I had learned in college, especially the quantitative ones. This moment was just overall really confusing and distressing. I quit my job and graduated unemployed.6) After 1-2 months of job hunting and feeling completely lost, my older sister told me that the best way to find myself and my path was to be in motion. She connected me with a friend of hers who is a co-founder of a martech startup to get some advice. I left his office with a job. It was basically a new internship. Networking is everything.7) I worked for 1.5 years at the Martech startup and the tech world opened up to me. I fell in love with tech, data, product, media, everything. Skills/Learnings: Learned how to build relationships with clients, how to give trainings to non-technical customers, how to do organized project management, to be a really fast learner, and all about digital marketing and analytics.8) During that time, I got a really cool offer - NOT in an Analytics position - to work at an amazing place, but then the pandemic hit and the position was frozen (forever). Skills/Learnings: sh*t happens. What matters is how we react to it. I cried a bunch, but was able to pull myself up and decided to commit to my Analytics studies.9) I spent 7 months interviewing, doing business cases, taking courses, and being rejected over and over again when applying for Analytics roles. Skills/Learnings: It is NOT easy to break into Data. But eventually you understand what works and what doesn't on your LinkedIn page, during interviews, and so on.10) Got my first opportunity to work in product analytics. At the time, the position was called "Product Performance Analyst". But it was essentially a data analyst position with less technical requirements. Learnings: don't get hung up on job titles. You can be a Data Analyst in multiple positions.

Since primary school, I was wondering who I want to become. If I will be working as vet or maybe as marketing specialist. In High school, I was learning advanced maths and history for high school exams (Baccalaureate). An advice that no one gives to job seekers. When you are searching for a job, you apply everywhere. It may be an academic post or industrial post in the field of RnD/content writing/analyst etc. This is not a good way. WHY? Bcoz once you enter into a field, it becomes difficult to get out. Example: Suppose you get a research analyst role, after a year you realise you want to go into RnD. It will get difficult to make a shift bcoz your experience will indicate otherwise. It's not impossible though. ๐Ÿ‘‰๐Ÿป WHAT YOU SHOULD DO? - Try to study yourself. Know what you liked and excelled in your college or have the potential to do good. - Based on this data, take an informed decision. - Try to apply more into your chosen role. - And wait. Your time will come. ๐Ÿ’ฅ I had a close save from this mistake. Luckily, I got into what I liked. Otherwise, I was close to making an anxious decision which I would have regretted. Experienced people, please chip in and give your opinions on this. #research #experience #job #jobseekers

Exploring New Horizons: My Journey in the Job Search Adventure So, picture this: I've got a ton of experience in customer service, meticulous documentation, and even some basic analytics from sifting through data entry and mining. On top of that, I run a small business where I offer language tutorial services, which I'm pretty passionate about. But wait, there's more! I've also got a knack for voice-over work, whether it's for IVRs or audiobooks. Plus, I dabble in content creation, article writing, and graphic design whenever I've got a spare moment. I enrolled in crash courses for upskilling to enhance self-thought talents and to be up-to-date with jobs in the market that I could make use of to help in someone elseโ€™s business and earn.๐Ÿ˜ My question the last time was: once I've polished up my profiles on various platforms and thrown my hat into the ring, what are my chances of landing gigs in this competitive market? Are clients mainly on the lookout for virtual assistants with intermediate to expert-level skills on all aspects? And should I consider adjusting my hourly rate to stay competitive?Few days ago, I got three responses from three different companies. One invited me to complete a form and to answer a lengthy assessment. The next day, I was scheduled for orientation but the email sent to me was few minutes before the time and I have ongoing online class which I cannot just cancel. The same with the second one, I went through a very interesting 60-minute test which I passed but only to find out later that they would contact me in the future if they have offer for work-from-home projects. They hire people to work onsite. With the third one after resubmitting the requirements, I got an email that they no longer accept non-voice tutor for English. They have openings for other subjects. I stayed positive because I asked for this, to go through assessments again to see how itโ€™s like these days and age. Thanks for the experience and I am positive that I can find a match soon.

GENERALISTAccording to Paul Genbergโ€™s Forbes article, the Value of Being a Generalist, the generalist is a much sought after job applicant. Contrary to popular opinion, businesses need a Generalist to connect the dots, which gives me hope. Undeterred, I know that Generalist is not a job title, but a cover letter that I build to match my generalist experiences to the job at hand. Paul Genberg uses three very interesting adjectives to shape the definition of Generalist. The first word he uses is dabbler; a dabbler sticks a toe in and then moves on, which suggests desultory habits of work and lack of persistence. This negative view is verified by a June 6, 2013 article in Business Insider entitled The Dabbler, The Obsessive and The Hacker. The dabbler sees new opportunities at every turn, but eventually hits a plateau, and the job is not right. And, most negative of all, the dabbler has a long resume. For Paul Genberg, the dabbler is the person who learns something new every day. Most importantly, the person can use the dabble to connect to someone tomorrow. The spirit of the dabbler is the person who says yes to every new opportunity, whether the person knows how to do it or not. The second word is Explorer, a word which has a positive connotation that does not carry the long resume of a dabbler. The Explorer is associated with unfamiliar territory. The Explorer has the spirit to say yes to new ideas and new knowledge. Also, Paul Genberg highlights that the Explorer should mind the gaps. Explore what you do not know and create experiences that help fill the gaps. In addition, the Explorer is willing to go beyond the comfort zone of being good at something. The Explorer asks for feedback from people who will be honest, ready to confront her/his own vulnerability and safe place to find this new comfortable place. In my career, when I tried to connect the dots by using literature or language or culture, I was not listened to. I feel uneasy being a Generalist, because I feel I am always looking for safe spaces. The last word, the Learner, supports the Dabbler and the Explorer because learning is improvement and growth. For Paul Genberg, learning is about learning the words of the subject being studied. If I have been packaged in my career, I have realized that volunteering is one way to fill the gaps. As a Generalist, I intend to open myself to new experiences as well as seeking spaces to speak about my diverse experiences to people outside my circle.
