HUMANSVILLE 18. -The old soldiers reunion, with represenatives from most counties in the State met here yesterday and to-day. Eshart and Crossland of Henry County. survivors of the celebrated locomotive capture, were among the speakers. The speakers were listened to with attention, intensified when the two locomotive raiders came before the immense audience and greeted their old comrades.

J. J. Akard, of Bolivar, was elected district commander; W. N. Reeser and S.

Gould, vicecommanders, and Wm. McCracken, of Hickory county, appointed adju- tant-general. The last week in August was selected for the next re- union in Dallas county, Division organization was than effected by consolidating the districts of Pomme de Terre, the Osage and West Ceutral Missouri with such others as may hereafter be organized or wish to connect themselves with it, to be known as the Southwest Mis souri Division, under control of the Missouri Department. S. W.

Smith, of Benton, was elected division commander by acclamation, W. W. Hiatt, of Hickory, senior vice- commander, and Thomas Greer, of Polk county, junior vice-commander, and authorized to select subordinate officers and to nominate one front each county in the division for administration council. The time and place of the annual encampment will be fixed by the council. The re-union closed' with camp-fires and a bean supper tonight.

Our county, court W88 ordered to appear yesterday and show cause why peremptory writs of mandamus should not be issued against them to levy a tax to pay off eleven judgements heretoforer rendered- some against the county, and others against Coldwater and Austin townships. The M. K. has cut loose entirely from the Missouri Pacific except in the matter of the St. Louis traffic. Hearafter the Kansas City business from Missouri points will be sent over the Fort Scott Gulf, via Clinton.

-Bazoo. An attempt was made, night, to blow up the Mitchell-Ingels business block at Nevada with dynamite. It is not known who the guilty wretches attempting the dastardly deed are. nor what were their motives. Had they sncceeded several lives would have been lost.

4 picnics' 'are reported in Missouri. They are doubtless of the original kind devised by the ingenious Mr. Cleveland. That is a misguided Democrat whoops up free trade under the name of tariff reform, and then the other fellow has 4 "picnic. -New York Press James Arnold attempted to commit suicide in Nevada Tuesday.

The papers of that town attempt to give an explanation for his wishing to leave this world of trouble, but we opine that he got tired of Nevada brag and bluster, and wanted to go to some place where he would fiud everything real and as represented. Nevada is coming right to the front. They are are talking of organizing a brass band. As they have more wind and can make more noise down there than any place of the size in the state, they should be enabled to get up a rattling good brass band; provided, of course, that the instruments shall be donated by outside parties. In a speech last Saturday Congress- man Bland said: 44If I had my way I would have free trade out and out.

This is undoubtedly the ultimate aim of the Democracy. These tariff reform movements are a mere blind to the real burpose of the party, which is absolute free trade, with internal taxes 88 a means of raising revenue. Wm.S. Webb, who was Cleve- land's secretary of Montana Territory. and got the bounce when Harrison was elected, was arrested yesterday for embezzling $5,000 or $6,000 of United States funds while in office.

At present he is secretary of the Democratic State Committee, and is counted on to help give that state to his party this fall. John T. Crisp attending an assemblage of Union veterans as their invited guest, and receiving "'three times three'? from them at the concluding of his address, is certainly a unique spectacle; buf it is refreshing and edifying, showing that there is one place at least, where an ex- Confederate who has accepted the results of the war can eulogize Abraham Lincoln, and say he is not a Jeff Davis man, without being hooted out of the meeting, as actually happened to Crisp, at the Higginsville Confederate reunion.Lamar Missourian. Judge David A. DeArmond has virtually been tendered a very honorable and important position, that if accepted would necessarily leave a vacancy in the Circuit Judgeship to be filled by the Governor, and the removal of the Judge from Bates County, which his numerous friends would regret very much.

The fact that publication of the particulars might embarass those interested, we defer further mention of the matter at present. Lowever, we know of no man in the State more suitable, capable and qualifled for the position he is sought to fill than Judge David A. DeArmond. Rich Hill Review. The Democratic party of Missouri, under the leadership of Col: Joshua LaDue, of this city, and Senator Vest is haviug a red- hot time this fall.

The leaders paw the air with all the vigor of office-seekers, and we presume they imagine their free trade arguments will succeed in knocking the Republican party out of time long before another campaign opens. Let them rant, and rave, and belch forth free trade tirades. Long before we have the sort of "tariff reform' tho Democrats want, such men 88 LaDue and Vest will have passed from public memory in Missouri. The Republican party fully understands the needs of the country and can be depended upon to inaugurate and carry out successfully all reforms demanded by the peeple. Office and Factory, corner of 2nd and High sts. BOONVILLE, MO. Smoke this in Your Pipe. The Missouri tariff tanglers will elect the entire Republican county, State and National ticket, if the Republicans will keep quiet. There is no class of men on earth, doing more for the Repuplican party, than are the Democratic tariff voters of Missouri.

Nature did not leave anything for publicans to do. She made the Republican argument, in the case, when I she filled out old Missouri with her mineral wealth. If our Democratic friends, in Grand Old Missouri, were not surrounded and hedged in, on every side by solid blocks of Republican logic against their teachings and doctrines, on the free trade question, we might take issue with them. But as the matter stands there is no occasion for this. If they look above, which they seldom do, they will find Protection inscribed upon the canvass of blue, and the brilliancy of the stars reflecting the glittering wealth of our state.

If they make an excavation, in any part of the state, they will at once encounter resources, that make the air musical with the sound Protection. In Missouri the song of the wild bird is Protection. The gentle zephyrs, as they murmur through our forests, are whispering Protection. The bleating of our flocks and herds, echo the word, Protection. The ground we walk over gives forth sounds of Protecton.

The dark browed monarchs of the skies, announce their coming, with the thunders of Protection, yet now and then you can hear 8 small sized ancient Missouri Democratic Orator squeaking the doctrines of free trade. Wizard Oil would'nt save him. Go on with your legerdemain, the trick is an old one and while your performance may fool some of your own party, the Republicans "kinder enjoy and will lead, with the banner of Protection in the home run. Missouri a free trade state? Statesman. Serious Outting Affray.

We learn that last Monday night there was a terrible cutting affray at the little town of Wheatland, in Hickory. The parties involved are prominent citizens, the assailant being James Agee, the village landlord, and the victim was Dr. physician in good standing. He WAS stabbed in tour places, and his wounds will probably prove fatal. We did not learn the cause of the difficulty.
