Does Menards have fuses? ›

Plug fuses are available in both heavy-duty and medium-duty types with standard Edison-type threaded bases and tamper-proof rejection-type bases.

In many cases, if your dryer has a malfunctioning thermal fuse, the dryer will not turn on at all. However, with some other dryers' models, the drum will turn and the dryer will operate, but the heating element will not turn on to heat up the clothing inside the dryer.

Thermal Cutoffs (Thermal Fuses) are devices designed to keep components safe in situations when an excessive temperature occurs. When the rated functioning temperature of the thermal cutoff is exceeded, the device will fail open in the electrical circuit, breaking the flow of current.

First, you will need to determine the maximum fuse rating in amperages by applying this formula for calculation: P (Watts) ÷ V (Voltage) = I (Amps). Next, you will need to calculate the minimum fuse rating or amperage by multiplying that total (the maximum amperage rating) by 125%.

How long does a fuse last? If the fuse does not operate then it will typically last 20 - 30 years as long as it is operating within its design limitations. If it is in a higher cyclic operating temperature i.e. very cold or very hot, then this can reduce its life.

Regardless of whether your dryer is electric or gas-powered, you'll usually find the thermal fuse at the back or bottom of the machine. It's located close to the exhaust duct, near the heating element or burner. Take a look at the illustration below for a clearer picture.

The cost to replace a thermal fuse on a dryer is $75 to $150 on average. The cost of a dryer thermal fuse is $5 to $10 for the part or up to $60 for OEM parts. This safety device stops the motor when the dryer overheats.
