Who is the owner of Kneaders? ›

Kneaders Bakery & Café is still headquartered in Orem, Utah and operated by our founders, Gary and Colleen Worthington. Several 2nd, 3rd, and even 4th generation members of the Worthington family have carried on our founders' legacy in a variety of capacities, from company leadership to guest service in our bakeries.

Each loaf is made from scratch from start to finish at every location and is never par baked.

Kneaders has become one of the fastest growing companies in Utah, expanding its reach to over 56 locations in six Western states.

After mastering old-world bread baking techniques, testing countless recipes and developing a unique flour blend, our founders began baking artisan hearth breads in their hometown of Orem, Utah in 1997. They soon realized our signature breads would make delicious sandwiches and would pair perfectly with seasonal soups.

“We're really proud of the ingredients we provide resulting in the food offering we provide,” Giles told the Eagle. This is Kneaders' first expansion into the Midwest. So far, the bakery has stores in Utah, Nevada, idaho, Colorado, Arizona and Texas.

When our founders opened the first Kneaders, they sourced their starter from one of the best sourdough cities in the world – San Francisco. The San Francisco Baking Institute shared their 1,000 year old starter with them, and Kneaders has been using it ever since!

The countries with the largest output of bread and bakery products were the U.S. (13.9 million tonnes), China (9.2 million tonnes), Russia (8.8 million tonnes), Germany (5.8 million tonnes), the UK (5.7 million tonnes) and Egypt (4.6 million tonnes). Overall, these countries accounted for 37% of the global output.

Bread Ahead was founded in 2013. Matthew started his working life as a chef. His first 15 years were spent working alongside some of the best chefs in the UK throughout the 90s. In 2000 he set up his first bakery business.

In 2004, two friends with a passion for exploring and eating opened the first Café Zupas in Provo, Utah.

It all started back in 1940, when Dean and Betty Arnold opened their own bakery out of a tiny house in Stamford, CT. Back then, you couldn't find the premium bread that we love today. By starting small, the couple were able to give each brick-oven-baked loaf the attention it deserved.

Handcrafted by our bakers, our bread is baked freshly daily (unlike a pre-frozen reheated supermarket loaf).

The bakery has been in business for 27 years with Bryan Begg, head baker and owner, purchasing it from his mother and founder, Margaret Begg in January 2020.
