Earl Chester "Tom" Thompson, Jr.

Roanoke Rapids, NC - Earl Chester "Tom" Thompson, Jr., age 78, of Roanoke Rapids, NC, died Monday, October 4, 2010 at his home.

Earl "Tom" was born August 5, 1932 in Bucks County, PA. He was a Retired Master SGT. in the U.S. Air Force after twenty-three years of service. Mr. Thompson was predeceased in death by a daughter, Jennifer Thompson.

Survivors include his wife of thirty years Edna Peffer Thompson. Two daughters, Cheryl McClintock and husband Edward of Billings, Montana, Nealie Thompson of Doylestown, PA; four sons Michael Thompson and wife Marina, Jimmy Thompson, Tommy Thompson all of Doylestown, PA., and Brian Thompson and wife, Jennifer of New York, New York. Two step-sons Benjamin Reichert and wife Camille of Seattle, Washington, and Dennis Reichert of Fredericksburg, VA, one step-daughter Carol Reichert of Gaston, NC. Also, eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held, Wednesday, October 6, 2010 at 1:00 P.M. at Massey Funeral Home in Roanoke Rapids, NC chapel with Rev. Mike Little officiating. Entombment will follow at Crestview Memorial Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at Massey Funeral Home in Roanoke Rapids, NC, Tuesday, October 5, 2010 from 7:00 until 9:00 P.M. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Halifax Health Care Hospice. Massey Funeral Home in Roanoke Rapids, NC, is Handling the arrangements.

Brian Keith Farrow

Conway, NC - Brian Keith Farrow, age 38, of Conway, NC, died Wednesday, September 29, 2010.

Brian was born April 15, 1972 in Hertford County, NC. He was employed with Strickland Auto Group, Charles H. Jenkins in Ahoskie, NC.

He was a member of Faison’s Assembly of God Church. Brian was predeceased in death by his grandfather, Richard Gilbert Farrow,
his grandmothers, Stella Louise Farrow and Mozelle Clark and his niece, Ashlyne Noel Farrow.

Brian was an avid race car driver who raced, and won many races at many tracks in eastern North Carolina and Virginia.

He was a coach for his daughters' softball team, The RR Enforcers.
Survivors include his wife, Angie Newton Farrow. His children, Brian Keith Farrow, Jr., Christian Dylan Farrow and Haley Brooke Farrow. His parents, Richard and Judy Farrow. His brothers, Richard Farrow Jr. and Gilbert "Gill" Farrow and his wife Deborah. Also many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held, Sunday, October 3, 2010 at 3:00 PM at Faison’s Assembly of God Church, Hwy 158, Conway, NC, with Rev. R.O. and Naomi Denton officiating. Burial will follow at the Farrow Family Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at Massey Funeral Home in Jackson, NC, Saturday, October 2, 2010 from 6:00 until 9:00 PM and other times at his parents home, 342 Jenkins Mill Road, Conway, NC, and his wife’s home, 816 E. 11th Street, Roanoke Rapids, NC.

Alice Paulette Goddard Pagan

Roanoke Rapids, NC - Alice Paulette Goddard Pagan, age 65, of Roanoke Rapids, NC, died Saturday, September 11, 2010 at Pitt Memorial Hospital in Greenville, NC.

Paulette was born December 7, 1944 in Newport News, VA. She was predeceased by her father, Joseph Leonard Goddard and a daughter, Rhonda Linehan.

Survivors include her children, Chris Shadrick and his wife Shelley of Rocky Mount, NC, Eddie Pagan and his wife Kassandra of Chesapeake, VA, and Emma Pagan Ringenbach and her husband, Kevin of Austin, Texas. Her significant other, James Hawkins of Roanoke Rapids, NC. Her mother, Darlene Bertha Wright Cheek of Roanoke Rapids, NC. Her brother Joe Goddard and his wife Peggy of Roanoke Rapids, NC. Her sisters, June Bounds of Roanoke Rapids, NC, and Debbie Schumann of Houston, Texas.

Two half sisters, Trudy Schillo of Charlotte, NC, and Judy Goddard of Light House Point, Florida. Her grandchildren, Marisa, Michaela, Tori, Rachel, Lexie, Gregory, Ryan, Noah, Makenzie, Ethan, Amanda, Phillip, Sydney and David.

Funeral services will be held, Thursday, September 16, 2010 at 2:00 PM at Valley Community Church in Weldon, NC, with Rev. Ken Arrington officiating. Burial will follow at Crestview Memorial Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at Massey Funeral Home in Roanoke Rapids, Wednesday from 7:00 until 9:00 PM.

Henry Hodge Barnes, Sr.

Severn, NC - Henry Hodge Barnes Sr., age 81, of Severn, NC, died Friday, September 10, 2010 at Hampton Woods Health & Rehabilitation Center in Jackson, NC.

Mr. Barnes was born April 19, 1929 in Northampton County, NC, the son of the late Charlie Clyde Barnes and Viola Keith Morgan Barnes. He was also a member of Severn Baptist Church where he served as a Sunday school teacher and Deacon. He was also an avid Duke Blue Devils basketball fan for many years.

Survivors include his wife of 53 years Clarine Martin Barnes of Severn, NC. One sister, Maude Eure of Ahoskie, NC, two sons Henry Hodge Barnes Jr., of Severn, NC, Glen Barnes and wife Melissa of Galatia, NC. Two daughters, Debbie Cannon and husband, Sam of Margarettsville, NC, and Mary Lynn Barnes of Severn, NC, two grandchildren Mindy and Jeffrey Cannon of Margarettsville, NC.

Graveside services will be held, Monday, September 13, 2010 at 11:00 A.M. at Severn Cemetery in Severn, NC, with Rev. Brent Hobbs officiating.

The family will receive friends at Massey Funeral Home in Jackson, NC, Sunday, September 12, 2010 from 7-8:30 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Severn Baptist Church and Conway - Severn Rescue Squad.

Mrs. Mary Ella Hall Smith

Conway, NC - Mrs. Mary Ella Hall Smith, age 89, of Conway, NC, died Thursday, September 9, 2010 at the home of her daughter in Halifax.

Mrs. Smith was born January 14, 1921 in Bertie County, NC, the daughter of the late John Wesley Hall and Lougenia Harrell Hall. She was also predeceased by her husband, Edgar Matt Smith; a son, Larry Matt Smith; a daughter, Mary Ann Smith; and two brothers, Lloyd Hall and Jamie Hall. She was a member of Creeksville Baptist Church.

Survivors include her children, Betty S. Brown and her husband Richard of Halifax, NC, Johnny W. Smith and his wife Faye of Conway, NC, and Faye S. Wallace and her husband Bill of Roanoke Rapids. A sister, Sally Hall Brown of Rock Hill, SC, eighteen grandchildren, forty two great-grandchildren and many great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held, Sunday, September 12, 2010 at 2:00 PM at Creeksville Baptist Church with Rev. Any Sloan officiating. Burial will follow at Conway Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at Massey Funeral Home in Jackson, NC, Saturday, September 11, 2010 from 7:00 until 8:30 PM and other times at the home of Johnny and Faye Smith.

Memorial contributions may be made to Creeksville Baptist Church.

Mrs. Margaret Hawkins Hux

Roanoke Rapids, NC - Mrs. Margaret Hawkins Hux, age 86, of Roanoke Rapids, died Wednesday, September 8, 2010.

Mrs. Hux was born September 15, 1923 in Halifax County, NC, the daughter of the late Sidney Hawkins and Margaret Cook Hawkins. She was also preceded in death by her husband Grady L. Hux, her brothers, Earl Hawkins and Hubert Hawkins and her sister, Pauline Watkins.

Mrs. Hux was an avid gardener and well-known for her beautiful azaleas. She was instrumental in helping to form the Halifax Chapter for Mental Retardation.

Survivors include her children, Grady Winfield "Phil" Hux and his wife Jean, Margaret Melinda Hux, all of Roanoke Rapids and Hubert Matthew "Matt" Hux of Kinston, NC. Her sister, Margie Lee Ferguson and her husband Jessie "Blackie" Ferguson. Her grandchildren, Grady "Chad" Cooke, Stacy Lee Cooke, Margaret "Heather" Etheridge and her husband Jason, Matthew Grady "Matt" Hux and Jacob Edwards Hux. Her great-grandchildren, Allie Elizabeth Etheridge, Jackson Cole Etheridge, Emma Claire Etheridge, Layne Grady Hux and Alexis Ray Cooke. Her special caregiver and friend Dozene Lynch. Also many nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be held Friday, September 10, 2010 at 11:00AM at Cedarwood Cemetery in Roanoke Rapids with Rev. Jim Bell officiating.

The family will receive friends at Massey Funeral Home in Roanoke Rapids on Thursday, September 9, 2010 from 7:00 until 9:00pm and other times at the home of Phil and Jean Hux, 110 River Road South, Roanoke Rapids.

Mr. John Wesley Miles

Littleton, NC - Mr. John Wesley Miles, age 81, of Hwy 48, Littleton, NC, died Sunday, September 5, 2010 at his home,

Mr. Miles was born July 5, 1929 in Northampton County, NC, the son of the late John Joseph Miles and Lottie Beatrice Birdsong Miles. He was a US Army veteran who served with the Army Engineers and held the rank of corporal. He was a retired heavy equipment operator for many years. He was a lifetime member of the VFW and Concord United Methodist Church.

Survivors include his wife of almost 59 years, Doris Jean Seagroves Miles, who were married September 22, 1951. His children, Sandy DeBerry and her husband Joey of Roanoke Rapids, NC, John Wesley Miles, Jr. and his wife Ginger of Havelock, NC, Dennis Albert Miles of the home, Allen Eugene Miles and his wife Debbie of Roanoke Rapids, NC. His sisters, Margaret West of Raleigh, NC, Ruby Mitchell of Thomasville, NC, Ellen Harrison of Gaston, NC, and Minnie Poindexter and her husband Sonny of Roanoke Rapids. His brother, Roger Miles and his wife Liz of Gaston, NC. Eight grandchildren, Kristen DeBerry of Roanoke Rapids, John W. Miles III and his wife Ashley of Rocky Mount, NC, Brian Christopher Miles and Richard Jason Miles both of Detroit, MI, Brandon Keith Miles of Red Oak, NC, Tracy Hanco*ck of Havelock, NC, Shelly Miles of Havelock and Joshua Lewis Miles of El Paso, Texas. One step-granddaughter, Brandy Garner. Two great-grandchildren, Summer Marie Hanco*ck and Eden Nicole Hanco*ck, both of Havelock, NC.

Funeral services will be held, Wednesday, September 8, 2010, at 3:00 PM at Massey Funeral Home in Roanoke Rapids, with Pastor Ryan Parker officiating. Burial will follow at Crestview Memorial Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at Massey Funeral Home Tuesday from 7:00 until 8:30 PM.

Nettie Marie Barnes

Roanoke Rapids, NC - Nettie Marie Barnes, age 75, of Roanoke Rapids, NC, died Saturday, September 4, 2010 at Life Care in Rocky Mount, NC.

Mrs. Barnes was born April 29, 1935 in Roanoke Rapids, the daughter of the late Henry Wyatt and Edna Pearl Barrett Wyatt. She was also predeceased by her husband William Roland Bailey, her daughter Marcia K. Barnes, her brother Walter Norton and a sister, Nellie (Nell) Mae Johnson.
Marie was a lifetime caregiver for her daughter, Marcia K. Barnes.

Survivors include her two sons, Dennis Roland Bailey and his wife Ann and Stephen Earl Bailey, all of Roanoke Rapids, NC. Her brother, William Wyatt and his wife Janet of Connecticut. Her sisters, Margie Shearin of Massachusetts, and Alease Scherger of Virginia. One grandson and one great-granddaughter and several nieces and nephews.

A private service will be held at a later date.

Arrangements are being handled by Massey Funeral Home in Roanoke Rapids, NC.

Mrs. Annie Frances Godwin Small

Jackson, NC - Mrs. Annie Frances Godwin Small, age 52, of Jackson, NC, died Thursday, September 2, 2010 at Pitt Memorial Hospital in Greenville, NC.

Mrs. Small was born December 21, 1957 in Hertford County, NC, the daughter of the late Albert Ray Godwin and Barbara Schuller Godwin. She was a member of the Lasker Volunteer Fire Department and a public school teacher. She loved raising Dachshund puppies.

Survivors include her husband Everett Bonner Small. Her daughters, Catherine Small Seuis and her husband Danny of Roanoke Rapids, NC, and Elisha "Bambi" Small Boger and her husband Dan of West Palm Beach, Florida. Her sister, Trudy Catenaccio and her husband Frank of Corella, NC. Her mother-in-law, Mary Lassiter of Edenton, NC. Her sister-in-law, Elizabeth Swindell and her husband Billy of Nags Head, NC. Also many friends.

Funeral services will be held, Monday, September 6, 2010 at 2 PM, at the Reboboth United Methodist Church in Jackson, NC. Burial will follow at the Williams Family Cemetery in Ahoskie, NC.

The family will receive friends at Massey Funeral Home in Jackson, Sunday, September 5, 2010 from 3:00 until 5:00 PM.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Mr. Osie Farmer, Jr.

Aulander, NC - Mr. Osie Farmer, Jr., age 62, of Aulander, NC, died Sunday, August 22, 2010.

Mr. Farmer was born September 11, 1947 in Bertie County, the son of the late Osie Farmer Sr. and Margaret Tripp Farmer. He was also predeceased by his grandparents, Jim and Emma Farmer and James Lawrence Sr. and Elizabeth Tripp.

Mr. Farmer was a carpenter for many years. He was an avid hunter and fisherman who loved the outdoors.

Survivors include his loving companion, Brenda Dawson. His daughters, Laura Joyner and her husband Greg and Jennifer Wheeler and her husband Chad all of Aulander, NC. Two grandchildren, Grayson and Camryn Joyner, both of Aulander, NC. Two brothers, Donald Farmer and his wife Frances of Harrellsville, NC, and Jerry Farmer of Aulander, NC. Two sisters, Shirley Farmer House and her husband Wayne and Carol Farmer Saunders and her husband Todd, all of Cary, NC. Three nephews, two nieces and five great-nieces.

Graveside services will be held Wednesday, August 25, 2010 at 3:00 PM at Aulander Cemetery in Aulander, NC.

The family will receive friends at the Farmer Homeplace in Aulander, NC.

Arrangements are being handled by Massey Funeral Home in Aulander, NC.
